"When should I have newborn photographs taken? Can I pick the props used for my child's session? Can my pet be in the photographs too?"
If this is your first time hiring a newborn photographer, you may find yourself asking a few of these questions. Below are the answers to these questions and many, many more.
What is the best age for newborn photography?
The best time to take newborn photographs is when your baby is between 7-21 days old. Babies at this age spend most of their time sleeping and are still very flexible from being in the womb, both of which make it easier and much safer to pose them for photographs.
What if my baby is over 3 weeks old?
Don't worry! Just because your infant is a little bit older doesn't mean you can't have amazing newborn pictures. We can discuss your vision as well as set realistic expectations based on your little one's age and weight. No matter what, I will capture images of your child for you to love.
How much does newborn photography cost?
That answer will vary greatly depending on a few factors. For example, the type of session you are looking for (posed vs. lifestyle), the package you choose (5 digital images vs. 2 canvas prints), the number of people being photographed (just your newborn vs. your newborn, your immediate family and grandparents), and the overall experience you are receiving all equate to different totals.
Individual photographers also charge different amount based on their experience and costs of doing business; it is common for a newborn photography session to cost anywhere from $400 to $2,000+. Many business owners also offer payment plans.
Why is newborn photography so expensive?
Have you been trained in newborn safety and photography?
Yes. I have completed several virtual courses as well as in-person workshops on newborn handling and safety. Your child's safety and well-being will always be my top priority.
Where will my newborn session take place?
Posed newborn photography and maternity sessions take place in my photography studio, located at: 501 Silverside rd. Wilmington, DE 19809.
Lifestyle newborn photography occurs in the client's home. Lifestyle sessions are available to clients with homes in Delaware County, PA and Northern Delaware.
How long does a newborn session take?
Newborn sessions vary in length. The package you choose as well as your babies needs dictate the amount of time your session will take to complete. Lifestyle newborn sessions include 1 hour of photography, while posed newborn sessions take from 1 hour to 3 hours to complete, depending on the package you choose.
Do you supply the outfits?
Yes, I supply all of the necessary lighting, props, backdrops, and outfits for newborn sessions.
Can I pick the backdrops used for my child's session?
Yes! I want you to love your images and be able to display them proudly in your home. You can absolutely request the colors and props used for your baby's session.
I have a special item I want in my newborn's photos; can you incorporate it?
Incorporating family heirlooms or other meaningful items into your newborn's session is a wonderful way to customize your photographs and showcase what's most important to you and your family. Please let me know about these special items before your session date, so that I can plan your session accordingly.
Will the flash hurt my newborn's eyes?
No. My studio lighting is double diffused, and it will not hurt your newborns eyes.
What should I do during the session?
Once parent and sibling photographs have been completed, you are welcome to sit back and relax! Many parents enjoy watching the remainder of the session, but if you would rather read a book, watch a movie, or enjoy a snack (hands free!) you're more than welcome to do so.
How many photographs will I receive?
The number of images you will receive depends on the package you have purchased. Please see "Packages & Pricing" for a detailed description of what each package includes. You may also purchase additional downloads, prints, and products after your gallery has been delivered for viewing.
Can my pet be in my photographs?
Yes, I have included pets in lifestyle newborn sessions. I only ask that your pet be well-behaved and that at least one adult (other than myself) is present and responsible for them at all times.
