When to Choose a Wrapped Newborn Session- Newborn Photography

Updated: Jun 5

New parents may choose to have a wrapped newborn session for several reasons. It may be due to their newborns age, photo preferences, or budget. Whatever the reason, wrapped newborn sessions are a great way to capture your baby while they are still at their littlest, and your gallery will still be filled with variety!

Timing

One of the benefits of a wrapped newborn session is that they can be done during a different time frame than other newborn sessions. Typically, posed newborn sessions occur when your baby is 5-21 days old; that's when babies are still at their sleepiest and the most flexible, so they can curl into those adorable poses.

If your baby is older than 21 days, it may be best to choose a wrapped session. Keeping your baby swaddled for the entire session will help them remain sleepy and comfortable as we move through different sets.

Focus on your newborn

Another reason parents may choose a wrapped session is because they would like for all of the focus to be on their baby boy or girl. Wrapped newborn sessions do not include family or sibling poses, instead your gallery is filled with images of your little one. Although I highly encourage family portraits, some parents do not want to have their photograph taken, and that is okay! The most important thing is for my clients to be comfortable, and if that means just focusing on their baby, that's what we'll do.

Budget

Finally, wrapped newborn sessions are a more budget friendly option. Newborn photography is expensive- and for a good reason. While I won't dive into every aspect that goes into pricing, I will say that one of the reasons wrapped newborn sessions are less expensive is because they do not take as long to photograph. That is because once your little one is all wrapped up, they can be moved from one set to another without waking up. Wrapped newborn sessions are also less expensive because they do not include sibling or family photos, further reducing the length of the session.

Regardless of the type of newborn photography session you choose, your baby's comfort and safety will be my #1 priority. Once they are comfortable swaddled, they'll be photographed in different sets and props, providing you with a gallery of beautiful images of your little one to remember this precious time in their life.
